ARTIST STATEMENT

Mrs Robinson

“Tribal Love is a series of one immensely dynamic artist expression inspiring another. A process of looking with in, holding up a mirror to see deeper how inter connected we are. As I see it, we are one big family spinning in this small world.
In December 2015 while flipping through a Helmut Newton book I spontaneously came across a picture of David Bowie. I immediately felt struck by some kind of indescribable feeling. I had no words for it just a strong feeling that would soon lead me on this journey.
In that moment David’s essence beamed into my consciousness. He was now on my radar and things would swiftly change.
One month later I woke up to hear the news that David had passed. I was immediately over come with grief. Within days I dove into a “collaborative”series of expressionism...immersing myself in David's music while painting and learning all that I could about him, his legacy, his humanity, and the wealth of creative material that he loosed on the planet. Tribal Love began as a compelled journey through inner and outer space with David on my radar – my intention is merely to express my process through this series, guided by intuition and inspired by David’s vibes.

In September I drove from Toronto to NYC and in respectful coordination with the community and David's neighbors at Pravda, I created a mural honoring David's life and his art. The mural was mounted on the wall beside David's home on Lafayette from September - November. The work was well received as a kind of civic homage, and nowhere was this more graciously welcomed, than with Iman's choice to feature the piece on Instagram.

One year after this conscious journey began, on January 10th 2017 I had the incredible opportunity to paint live during Celebrating David Bowie Goodwill concert series in NYC and again during their January 24th & 25th performances in Los Angeles. Creating art infused with the vibrant energy from David's band mates and fans, the proceeds from these paintings are benefiting a children's art program in David's hometown.
The tribute mural will be featured this fall in a brilliant creative charity event on Lafayette benefiting Housing Works, NY.
Stay tuned as the journey continues...
